Delhi : The first match of the 2-match Test series between India and Bangladesh has started on September 19. Former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar has expressed surprise at Rohit Sharma’s decision to drop spinner Kuldeep Yadav for the first Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The Indian team has chosen a combination of three fast bowlers and two spinners in the first Test, which does not include Kuldeep Yadav. Usually the pitch and conditions demand three spinners. As always, experienced spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja retain their place, while either Kuldeep Yadav or Akshar Patel gets a chance to play for the third spinner. But this time Team India did not give preference to any secondary spinner and has given place to right-arm fast bowler Akash Deep.
Sanjay Manjrekar expressed his displeasure
Sanjay Manjrekar wrote, “It’s amazing how easily India leaves out Kuldeep Yadav.”
Kuldeep Yadav has been in and out of the Test team since his debut in 2017. He was dropped from the playing XI despite taking eight wickets in the first match against Bangladesh in 2022. After this, he returned to the team for the home series against England in early 2024.
Kuldeep played four consecutive matches and took 19 wickets in the series, as well as some useful performances in the lower order. Due to these performances, he can be considered a more likely favourite than Axar Patel in terms of selection.
