Delhi : The cricket rivalry between India and Australia is considered one of the fiercest in modern times, and it is set for a new chapter when the two teams face off in a five-Test series as part of the Border Gavaskar Trophy starting this November.
India has defeated Australia in the last two Border Gavaskar series and this time they will try to score a hat-trick of victories. At the same time, Australia is also desperate to take revenge for this defeat. Amidst this rivalry, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has shared some controversial things, which has heated up the atmosphere.
In Australia Team India is targeted- Aakash Chopra
In his commentary experiences during the 2018-19 tour, Chopra revealed how the Australian media and team target Indian players. He also revealed how some match clips are picked out from live broadcasts and shared with the media to defame Indian players.
It is worth noting that India won the historic Test series for the first time in Australia under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. The story that Chopra shared on the ‘2 Sluggers’ podcast is related to the second Test in Perth. He said that the broadcasters exaggerated the heated exchange between Ishant Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja to damage the image of the Indian team. Chopra was present in the commentary box when the incident took place.
He said in a podcast, “The Australian media used to release the video. They did it in front of me when Ishant Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja were arguing with each other inside the 30-yard circle. The broadcasters increased the volume of the stump mic because they were abusing each other. They cut that clip and shared it with the press in front of me. After that, when we were talking outside the field, I said, ‘What are we really trying to achieve, because this is nothing.'”
Chopra also revealed that when all this happened, Ricky Ponting was also present in the commentary box. He first criticized what he saw, but as soon as the former Australia captain went on air, he said something completely opposite.
“Ricky said they were making a mountain out of a molehill. But as soon as he went on air, he launched a scathing attack on the Indian team, and I was shocked because just a few minutes earlier he had said something else.”
