Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken a historic decision regarding prize money, under which now men’s and women’s cricket teams will be given equal prize money in the World Cup. This initiative will start from next month’s Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, which will be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 3.
According to the ICC, this time the winning team of the Women’s T20 World Cup will get a prize money of 23 lakh 40 thousand dollars (about Rs 19.60 crore). In comparison, last year Australia got 1 million US dollars (about Rs 8.40 crore) for winning the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. This time the prize money has increased by 134 percent.
It is worth noting that this year, the Indian men’s team was also given a prize money of 23 lakh 40 thousand dollars for winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
ICC took an important decision
The ICC has termed this decision as an important achievement in the history of the game. This decision was taken at the ICC’s annual conference in July 2023. The ICC decided to implement equal prize money for men’s and women’s teams seven years ahead of its 2030 target.
In this way, cricket has become the first major sport in which equal prize money has been ensured for men and women in the World Cup.
