Delhi : India and Bangladesh are all set for the first match of the two-match Test series, which will begin in Chennai on Thursday. Ahead of the match, India head coach Gautam Gambhir attended a press conference and answered media queries about the series. The match will be India’s first red-ball game after a gap of six months, and the series will also impact the World Test Championship standings.
Gautam Gambhir said during this time that Indian batsmen have left behind their struggle against spin attack and they are fully capable of facing any type of attack in the world. Speaking to reporters on the eve of this two-match series against Bangladesh, he said that the bowling quartet of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja changed India’s trend of giving importance to batting.
Capable of destroying any bowling attack
When Gautam Gambhir was asked why Indian batsmen struggled against spinners in the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka last month, especially in the ODIs, he replied, “Our batting unit has so much quality that they can face any kind of attack. There is a lot of difference between Tests and ODIs.”
Bumrah and Pant are brilliant
Gautam Gambhir also praised his bowlers and said, “India used to prefer batting first, but Bumrah, Shami, Ashwin and Jadeja have made it a bowler’s game. Bumrah is the best fast bowler in the world right now, who can make a difference at any stage of the game.”
The Indian coach also praised Rishabh Pant, who is returning to Test cricket. Pant will play a Test match for the first time after being injured in a road accident in December 2022. Gambhir said, “Pant has performed brilliantly as an explosive batsman, but his wicketkeeping has been underestimated in Indian conditions. His wicketkeeping has been amazing in front of Ashwin and Jadeja.”
Sarfaraz Khan will have to wait now
Gautam Gambhir made it clear in the press conference that Sarfaraz Khan will have to wait longer. He said that they are not dropping any player and everyone will be given a chance. Sarfaraz Khan is a good talent, but he will have to be patient for now. Gambhir also praised Jurel, but his chances of playing also seem difficult.
